2000 Series Notes

The 2000 Crosstown Classic was perfectly balanced — a dead-even 3-3 split that felt like neither side could get the upper hand. Two series, two different stories that cancelled each other out.

The Sox came into June at New Comiskey playing some of the best baseball in the American League. They were legitimately good in 2000, finishing 95-67 and winning the AL Central. Frank Thomas was a force, Magglio Ordonez was coming into his own, and the rotation was solid. They took the June series 2-1, winning two close ones before the Cubs salvaged the finale.

Then the Cubs came to Wrigley in July and flipped the script. After dropping Game 1, the Cubs rattled off back-to-back wins — 9-2 and 9-6. Sammy Sosa was in the middle of another big offensive year. The North Side took the July series 2-1 to even everything up.

Final result: Cubs 3, Sox 3. All-time series after 2000: Tied up at 9 each — even after four seasons.
